10 Keys To Happiness
What is Happiness?
I’ve read countless books and articles about the concept of happiness, from psychology, philosophy to esoteric literature. I came to my own conclusion about what happiness is. It is very simple.
Happiness is a feeling, it is a physical sensation. It is a physiological phenomenon. Therefore it is not simply a mindset, although it is the outcome of a useful or resourceful mindset. Thinking in itself is not being. Being happy is embodied.
You can’t help but be happy and content if you respect your body.
If you could have the following, it will be very difficult to be unhappy:
- Nourished body – eat well.
- Hydrated body – drink enough water.
- Clean and cleansed body.
- Adequate sleep.
- Deep breaths.
- Loving touch.
- Perspiration – from building strength, tone, flexibility and endurance
- Ear-soothing sounds.
- Eye-calming surrounds.
- Regulated body temperature
These are simple but not easy.
For instance, to be able to sleep well, one must feel integrated or congruent with oneself. You can’t have a good sleep if you feel conflicted, or not living according to what you value. To be able to experience loving touch may mean finding the right partner in life who respects your body and nurtures you. To have a regulated body temperature means being in the right environment that suits your predisposition. I could almost write a book just expanding on the underpinning presuppositions for each of the ten items above.
To have all of the above, requires constant mindfulness, self-awareness, loving of self, and being resourceful.
Don’t mistake happiness for success. People chase success. You can only be present for happiness.
