Mind Adventures 5 (NLP): Golden Fields
Day 5 of Neurolinguistic Programming GradDip Part 2, Unit on Advanced Modelling
Thoughts and insights

It started with a frame. It seemed dark and hollow inside, at first. It’s like a cave, where you can sense a depth without really knowing how far it goes. I peeked further in. I saw inside, a yellow brick road, curving to the right.
I imagined myself beyond the steel-like frame, onto the yellow brick road just before where it curves to the right. I found myself on the road and trudged right along until I found myself on an edge, on top of a hill.
Overlooking the hill is a golden field. No houses, no people. It is very calm and peaceful. There’s a breeze and the grasses sway. Right before me are gently sloping hills. On the horizon is a sun, a happy golden sun! Just like the sun in Teletubbies, with this cute smiling face. I feel happy.
I walked further, down from the hill where I stood, through the golden fields, up another hill on the other side of the fields. From where I stood on the other side, I looked back.
I realised the frame was part of a door. All I needed was to open the door, or knock, because someone may actually just open it for me. Either way, I don’t have to wait anymore. The road is there, and the golden fields are just around the corner from where the frame is.
I felt the role-play session is complete for now. I gave my facilitator a nod and thanked her.
Yesterday, in one of the exercises, I played the role of a client. My facilitator had some challenges not getting sucked into my own world because what I wanted to happen is something that he is already doing. So we decided to grab a bite after the class, step out of our facilitation hats, and just have a chat about the things that he does.
He told me how he got started. He used to do something very different. One day, he made a decision to change course. He started by talking to people, sharing his views, thoughts, ideas, for free. He just wanted to share at first. Then one day, someone called him to share his ideas, with a fee. Then it happened more… and more. From there, he wrote a couple of books which became bestsellers in his country. Now, he’s looking at venturing into television. He reckons he could be a billionaire someday. He knows someone who is. Given his modelling skills, he could model this billionaire who happens to be his client.
We all have our own unique roads that we choose to take, in our own experience of the world, inside and out. Then we find, at certain junctions, worlds converge. Something opens up before us, that may have already been there that we simply haven’t realised before.
