Climbing Pacaya Volcano
Climbing Pacaya Volcano Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala |
acclimatised fairly quickly, but I was behind most of the other climbers. I didn’t have the right shoes which made it challenging for me. My rubbershoes are meant for simple walks, they’re not made for climbing especially on volcanic rocks! There were a few locals with their horses touting for us to pay for a ride. I found this really
annoying. People would typically go “climbing” a volcano because they are prepared to climb, duh!? Because of the horses on the trail, it wasn’t a pleasant smiling hike with heaps of horseshit littering the path. We didn’t get to the summit because they said it’s restricted. It would probably have taken another 30-60 mins to get to the top of the volcano. I could feel the heat underneath my shoes, but unfortunately, there was no lava flow. Ultimately, the view was very rewarding! It was worth the experience! The shuttle dropped us back to the center of town in Antigua. Because of Corpus Cristi processions, the road back to our casa is blocked. Along the way to the casa, saw this market next to a church in ruins. I bought a few local souvenir items.
