I was so jetlagged last night, that I can’t believe slept through for the most part of Deren Brown’s show! Argh!!!
Today, I’m much better. Spent the day dedicated to “ticking the boxes” for London.
I stayed till 12:30 PM at the apartment. Booked my return flight from Split to London, my accommodation in Prague and Split. Finally decided on AirBnB for Paris. Cost $170 for 2N, but I would need that little bit of luxury after hostelling in Iceland.
Sarah, George’s roommate, is from Paris and suggested I go to Montmarte, check Basilique Sacre-Coeur, and do as the French do, spend unhurried time along Rue Montmartre. She gave this semi-scowl on her face as if to tell me to forget Eiffel tower.
Had a salad for brunch, checked FB one last time, wrote e-mails and rushed off.
Have half a day to tick the boxes.
First things first. I topped up the Oyster card for 10pounds, should last me the day at least.
Westminster Bridge, London Eye and Big Ben – from Paddington station, Westminster Abbey Station was just a few stops away. The Bridge itself is right next to Big Ben, on the other side of the river is a good view of the London Eye. Two ticks!
From the bridge, I made my way towards Westminster Abbey and passed the Parliament square along the way. It was quite a grand architectural showpiece!
I walked through the gardens towards Buckingham Palace. In front of it, as I was taking a selfie, a guy passed by and offered to take me to a nicer spot and shoot my photo. Afterward, he gave me his number. “Maybe we can go for dinner or coffee or something.” I said, “I’m actually leaving tonight. I might touch base when I come back.” I was just being gracious. He’s nice, but not my type.
Had an early dinner at around 5 PM. I triggered the fire alarm while cooking – kitchen was filled with smoke and the ringing sound just made me panic! Finally stopped before I could even reach George. He did worse though. the cleaning lady said she came in, the place was smoking from the iron that he left switched on!!!
Took Heathrow Express from Paddington, around 7:10 PM leaving me enough time to comfortably check-in and catch my 9 PM flight to Iceland. Good thing it’s 24 hrs of sunlight up there!
