The Best Seat to Yucatan! Chichén Itzá, Mexico |
Chichén Itzá, Mexico
Left the apartment at 5.45am and reached othe airport around 6ish. It was cutting it fine for a 7am international flight to Cancun. CMH is a fairly small airport so it was fast getting in. We weren’t allocated any seats upon check-in, only at the boarding gates. Pleasant surprise: I got A1 — best seat in the house! That was my upgrade. Shad must have accumulated a lot of points!
It was a non-stop flight. I did not mind that it was choppy. Arrived Cancun around 10 am. Went to Enterprise to pick up our booked rental car. Shuttle to the rental car office was right outside the airport. While waiting for the car to be ready, we decided to use the time by going to Terminal 2. Looked for Cubana and when we got there, asked where we could get our Cuba tourist card, the guy at the counter pointed to this other guy right next to the counter, on a wheelcahir, wearing very casual t-**** and shorts. He sold us $20 tourist card or visa to Cuba — it was stamped. It indicates it’s legit, apparently. Otherwise, everything else seemed dubious.
STREET ART Stumbled upon great street around the mercado in Cancun, while looking for a place to have lunch. Mexico is easily one fo the best when it comes to street art. Found lunch at the Poblano. Ordered shrimp which cost around 160mex peso. Whatever they used as dressing didn’t agree with my palate. We must be in the wrong side of town, I expected better seafood.
VALLADOLID We dropped by mainly to stretch our legs from the long monotonous drive.Shad was enamored by the town. This is the first colonial town he’s been to in Mexico.Actually, this is his first time in any town in Mexico! If he liked Valladolid, he’d love Guanajuato for sure!
Hotel Alba Dolores – is only few minutes away from Chichen Itza, and is right across Ik’kil Cenote, that’s why I booked it. We checked in around 6PM. Had early dinner at their restaurant. I had Sopa de Lima and Brazo de Reina. a corn-based baked mixed with chaya leaves, pumpkin seeds, topped with hard-boiled eggs and tomato sauce. Shad had Tacos de Lechon. He loved the food. It was ok for me. Fairly simple, no frills Noche Buena!
