Modelling Excellence – A Bestselling Author
Modelling gives us the power to achieve excellence and be successful. There are those before us who have paved the way. We can follow their footsteps to make our journey to excellence easier and faster. We then travel off the beaten track to pave new paths for others to follow, in turn.
I want to know what makes a bestselling author. So now, I am here in Jakarta. O flew all the way from Melbourne to “model” a bestselling motivational speaker and author in Indonesia.
This modelling project involves:
1. Being clear on what you want to model
In this case, my intention was to model the ability to create a hook, a writing state, and structuring strategies. This meant putting together written materials towards a book to be published.
2. Preparing for different techniques of modelling
There are four different types of modelling I learned which we could apply.
a) Behavioral modelling. This is purely observing what my model is doing during the states being modelled, otherwise known as calibration.
b) Analytical modelling. This is about asking questions while calibrating to determine the process of submodalities, i.e. Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic in either external or internal modes, operating in parallel (synaesthesia) or in sequence
c) Symbolic modelling. This means paying attention to the metaphorical landscape of my model and modelling the landscape, i.e. writing is like having monkeys, or having a treasure, etc.
d) Micromodelling. This refers to putting myself in the shoes of my model, replicating micro muscle movements. By mimicking the physiology I gather insight into my model’s mind. This is also sometimes combined with behavioral modelling.
3. Preparing the unconscious to filter out potential undesirable attributes
The idea is to model only what is in line with our intention and not to inadvertently model any attributes of our model that may not be useful for us. This is something we make an arrangement with our unconscious with the discipline to step in and out of the modelling state where necessary.
The idea is to insulate and attend only to the ideal attributes as much as possible. We do not want to be contaminated with other undesirable characteristics of my model, consciously or not.
4. Preserving my own identity
When modelling excellence, it does not mean we replicate everything our model does. We should be prepared to maintain our own unique style, personality, and identity while replicating patterns that will make us successful.
